WOODFORD RESERVE RELEASES NEW DISTILLERY SERIES: ITS FIRST AMERICAN SINGLE MALT

AUGUST 14, 2025 (VERSAILLES, KY) — Today, Woodford Reserve introduces the latest expression in its Distillery Series – a 12-Year-Old American Single Malt Whiskey.

To craft this new expression, Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall used 100% malted barley, triple pot distilled, and aged for 12 years in used whiskey barrels. Holding these barrels back for a special age-stated release was an intentional choice, resulting in a richly developed whiskey with layers of sweet nutty malt, soft caramel, warm spice, and subtle citrus.

“I’m excited to release this 12-year-old American Single Malt, a whiskey that proves just how essential long aging in used barrels is for unlocking its full flavor potential. Its lighter color and nuanced flavor profile demonstrate the importance of time. I believe it’s one of the most authentic American Single Malts ever released — the first of its kind,” said McCall.

The 12-Year-Old American Single Malt is 90.4 proof and is part of Woodford Reserve’s Distillery Series, which was created to push Woodford Reserve’s creative boundaries and introduce new expressions to the market.

This limited-edition release has an MSRP of $99.99 for a 375 ml bottle and is available in limited quantities at select Kentucky retailers and at the Woodford Reserve Distillery starting on August 14th. It is also available for shipping (to KY, NH, ND, NE, and Washington D.C. only) through the brand’s online store at shop.woodfordreserve.com. Bourbinsane Breakdown heading Image

I love seeing Woodford Reserve push boundaries with their Distillery Series, and this new 12-Year-Old American Single Malt is definitely an exciting move. The fact that it’s made from 100% malted barley, triple pot distilled, and then aged a full 12 years in used whiskey barrels really sets it apart from so many American single malts we’ve seen so far. I think holding barrels back for over a decade was a smart play — that kind of patience tends to create a more layered, nuanced whiskey, and based on the tasting notes, it sounds like they’ve nailed that balance of sweet malt, warm spice, and citrus brightness. I will say, $99.99 for a 375ml bottle is on the higher end, but for a whiskey this unique and limited, I can see it being a collector’s grab for American single malt fans. Overall, I’m just glad to see more distilleries taking this category seriously and putting out age-stated, well-crafted releases like this.
