Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon Coming Soon?
A label has been submitted to the TTB for a potential new expression along the Elijah Craig line. Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon may be headed to the market in the near future.
Multiple distilleries have been experimenting with toasted finishes in recent history. Brown-Foreman and Michter’s are prime examples. Both Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniel’s have used barrel toasting with their Double Oaked and Heritige Barrel releases respectively. Michter’s has numerous toasted expressions, including their bourbon and rye whiskeys. Some rumors state that Michter’s may also be sourcing whiskey from Heaven Hill distillery. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see how similar these may taste compared to this potential Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel release.
According to the label, it would appear this toasted expression will be bottled at 94 proof, remaining consistent with the current Elijah Craig bourbon and rye offerings. No information is currently available about toast levels, age or potential cost.
How do you all feel about this possible new expression? Toasted barrel whiskeys I have tried tend to give me more creamy, chocolate and toasted marshmallow like qualities. I for one have really enjoyed most of the toasted barrel whiskeys I have tried, and I am hoping this will fall in line.
