Introduction
When it comes to bold, unapologetic rye whiskey, Sagamore Spirit Cask Strength has built a loyal following for good reason. Each year’s release brings a unique blend of fiery spice, layered sweetness, and complex character that rye lovers crave. With the 2025 edition now on shelves, the big question is: Does this year’s batch live up to the reputation—or raise the bar even higher?
In this review, I break down everything you need to know—from mash bill and proof to tasting notes, price point, and whether it earns a place on your shelf. Let’s dive into the details.

Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A big burst of cinnamon red hots, subtle dill notes, and clove leads the charge, followed by sweet undertones of toasted marshmallow, caramel, and crème brûlée crust. A subtle mint note lingers at the back with just a hint of black tea and oak char. Very little alcohol burn on the nose, but seems to have great depth in the Glencairn.
Palate:
Bold, oily texture with rich spice—cracked pepper, nutmeg, and fresh spearmint. Mid-palate turns sweeter with burnt caramel, honeycomb, and dark cherry syrup. The baking cocoa and classic Maryland rye flavor profile burst onto the back of the palate. This is a bourbon drinkers rye.
Finish:
Long and lingering mouthfeel. You get waves of barrel char, dry cocoa, and rye spice that cling to the backend of the tongue. Ends with a warming Kentucky hug (or Maryland hug, in this case) and a faint herbal earthiness.
